Dr. Navita James, Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Communication at USF, recently received the 2021 National Communication Association (NCA) Women鈥檚 Caucus Francine Merritt Award.
Dr. James鈥 research interests include issues related to ethnic and gender diversity, and teaching and intervention in diversity issues. This has recently led Professor James to exploring the role of motherhood and the images of the Madonna. She also serves as the Undergraduate Director.
The Women鈥檚 Caucus offers the Francine Merritt Award to someone who has made a difference
in the field of communication through her/his mentoring, service, advocacy, teaching,
and scholarship.
The NCA Women's Caucus mission is 鈥渢o advocate for women's improved status, voice,
and opportunities in the discipline. In doing so, we are committed to exploring the
diversity and
complexities of women's lives in terms of their academic and professional experiences.鈥
This year is the celebration of both the 50th anniversary of the Women's Caucus and the 25th anniversary of the Feminist and Gender Studies Division.
