Spring exhibition highlights printmaking pioneers - Creative Loafing
Graphicstudio, the printmaking workshop at the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 (USF), has an international reputation among artists. As one of only three professional university-based print ateliers, it鈥檚 become a popular stopover in many influential artists鈥 creative journeys.
As Todd Smith, the former Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art, once put it, through Graphicstudio, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息introduced Tampa to 鈥渁 veritable who鈥檚 who of contemporary art.鈥
This month, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息Contemporary Art Museum (新澳门六合彩内幕信息CAM) introduces Tampa to one of Graphicstudio鈥檚
most innovative printmakers in 鈥淥FFSET: Robert Rauschenberg at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息Graphicstudio,鈥
opening this Friday, Jan. 19.
Rauschenberg was one of the first artists Graphicstudio founder Donald J. Saff invited
to Graphicstudio in the early-1970s. And the rest is art history.
鈥淩auschenberg pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking in collaboration with Don Saff and the master printers,鈥 Graphicstudio Director Margaret Miller told Creative Loafing Tampa.
He printed on unconventional surfaces鈥攑aper bags, cardboard, and gauze鈥攁nd combined
methods in ways that inspired a generation of artists.
Rauschenberg left a 鈥渢remendous legacy鈥 at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息and beyond, Miller told CL.
