Assistant Professor receives McKnight Junior Faculty Development Fellowship
TAMPA, Fla. (July 18, 2019) – College of Education Assistant Professor Tanetha Jamay Grosland, PhD, was awarded a McKnight Junior Faculty Development Fellowship for the spring and fall semesters of 2020.
Initially funded by a grant from the McKnight Foundation of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Florida Education Fund (FEF) was established in 1984 and has awarded more than 190 McKnight Junior Faculty Fellowships to historically underrepresented minorities and women to support faculty diversity, tenure and promotion within Florida colleges and universities. The program awards fellows a one-year sabbatical to engage in research and training projects. Fellows who have participated in the program have collectively submitted more than 135 manuscripts for publication and published at least 10 books to summarize their research collected during the program.
As a faculty member in USF’s Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program, Dr. Grosland has experience in both education and policy fields. After serving as a political scientist in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill, Dr. Grosland taught in North St. Paul Public Schools as a classroom teacher then district-wide as an integration-equity leadership coach. She then earned her PhD from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in Culture and Teaching. She joined USF’s College of Education in 2017.
The fellowship program will allow Dr. Grosland to continue her research chronicling the lived experiences of urban educators and the impact of emotional conditions on social issues they deem important. Her research interests also include the politics of education in curriculum and policy studies.
