Outstanding Paper Award Graphic

College of Education professor, Mandie Dunn, PhD, received the Outstanding Paper 2022 Literati Award from Emerald Publishing. Her article, Teaching Literature Following Loss: Teachers鈥 Adherence to Emotional Rules, was published in English Teaching: Practice and Critique in August 2021.

鈥淚鈥檓 honored to receive this award recognizing my scholarship on teaching while grieving,鈥 said Dr. Dunn. 鈥淭his recognition suggests to me that my peers and colleagues acknowledge that teachers are human beings who lose people they love just like any other person, that the work teachers do to manage grief in the context of their professional roles is complex and difficult, and that teachers鈥 experiences deserve study and support."

For nearly 30 years the Emerald Literati Awards have been issued to celebrate and reward the outstanding contributions of authors and reviewers. Individuals selected for the award have presented research that creates impact and generates real change beyond academia. Ultimately, the recipients have demonstrated something different that stands out in the field.

Dr. Dunn is an assistant professor of English Education at the University of South Florida. Motivated by an interest in teacher wellness, she studies how teachers鈥 emotions and personal experiences influence teaching and learning, especially in English language arts classes.
