PBK Visiting Scholar Dr. Cathleen Kaveny Explores Cancel Culture

What is cancel culture? What does it mean to be civil in a modern context? Is it possible to be civil and call out injustice at the same time?

These subjects were the topic of Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) visiting scholar Dr. Cathleen Kaveny during a Frontier Forum Lecture at the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息's Judy Genshaft Honors College on November 15, 2023.

Following Dr. Kaveny鈥檚 lecture she was joined on stage by two Honors students, Hannah Craig and Anna Gustafson, as well as Dr. Magali Michael, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at USF, for an extended conversation. The four women discussed the country鈥檚 political and social discourse surrounding the media and the perceived increase in the demand for the condemnation of injustice.

Dr. Cathleen Kaveny signs books for attendees

After the lecture, Dr. Kaveny signed copies of her latest book, "A Culture of Engagement: Law, Religion, and Morality," which created the opportunity for attendees to chat with Kaveny in a more intimate setting.  

The Eta of Florida chapter of Phi Beta Kappa partners each year with the College of Arts and Sciences Frontier Forum program to enrich the intellectual life of the university. The Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholars program connects highly acclaimed scholars in numerous fields with local chapters to spend two days on campus sharing their ideas with students, faculty, staff, and the community. 

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation鈥檚 first and most prestigious honors society for liberal arts and sciences in the America. The organization, established in 1776, has 280 chapters across the country with the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息鈥檚 Eta chapter being one of the most recent additions to the distinguished organization.
