The 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 is side by side with some of the top universities in the United States, including two members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), as finalists for a national economic development award.

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) today named USF as one of six finalists for its seventh annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University .

The winners will be announced at the association鈥檚 annual meeting, which will be held November 10-12 in San Diego. 新澳门六合彩内幕信息and the University of Michigan are finalists for the IEP鈥疘nnovation鈥痑ward, recognizing exemplary initiatives spurring innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-based economic development. Other finalists for this year鈥檚 IEP awards are Purdue University, California State University, Northridge, North Carolina State University and Wayne State University.

USF鈥檚 recognition stems from the university鈥檚 work to drive development in the underutilized center of downtown Tampa. Working with community partners, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息Health鈥檚 new Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute is anchoring the construction of Water Street Tampa 鈥 a $3 billion urban business, innovation, residential and tourist destination. Once completed in late 2019, the new 新澳门六合彩内幕信息building will host world-class labs, advanced experiential learning spaces and research facilities. The downtown site will help cultivate growth in the area with approximately 2,000 faculty, researchers, staff and students.

The APLU announcement comes on the same day as 新澳门六合彩内幕信息was named among the top 10 American public universities in securing new U.S. utility patents for the seventh consecutive year.

"The 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 is proud of the role we play in supporting innovation and invention. As part of our mission as a Preeminent public research university, we have a responsibility to examine the most complex issues that impact our society and find novel, practical solutions,"; said 新澳门六合彩内幕信息President Judy Genshaft. "The ideas, technologies and products being developed by our talented faculty and students each day make tangible impacts on the world around us."

As described in APLU鈥檚鈥 鈥 a series of tools and publications that helps institutions plan, assess, and communicate their work in economic engagement, universities collaborate with their public and private sector partners in their states and regions to promote economic growth, competitiveness and opportunity through a variety of efforts across the aforementioned categories.

We applaud this year鈥檚 Innovation and Economic Prosperity University Awards finalists for their exceptional contributions to regional economic engagement,鈥 said APLU President Peter McPherson. 鈥淭heir work demonstrates what鈥檚 possible when public universities collaborate with other stakeholders to drive progress in their communities. We鈥檙e thrilled to recognize their work.鈥

To be eligible for an IEP award, an institution must first earn the from APLU. To receive that designation, universities conduct a rigorous self-study of their economic engagement activities that includes input from external stakeholders. As part of the self-study, each institution identifies areas for growth and improvement within its economic engagement enterprise and developed an improvement plan. This work demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and improvement in this kind of engagement vital to universities and their regional partners. Sixty-five institutions have been named IEP Universities designees since the program was launched in 2012. 新澳门六合彩内幕信息received this IEP in 2015.
