Federal Data Undercounts Fatal Overdose Deaths Caused by Specific Drugs

Fatal misuse of specific drugs is a bigger problem than federal statistics make them appear, especially in Florida. According to data collected by a researcher at the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢, between 2008 and 2017, roughly one-in-three overdose deaths in Florida caused by opioids were not reported by the federal government (аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢News).

An interdisciplinary team from the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅϢ’s (USF) Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx), directed by Dr. Davide Tanasi, and USF’s Access 3D Lab, directed by Dr. Laura Harrison, embarked on a collaborative research project in Sicily and Malta.
