Given negative messages in society, you might worry about what impact your sexual/gender minority status will have on your career path, religious beliefs, health, family, and friends. Examples of related stressors include:

- The coming out process
- Understanding your identity
- Worrying about others' reactions to coming out or changes in your relationship status
- Tension in family relationships
- Finding and engaging with romantic and sexual partners
- Discrimination and internalized oppression
- Loneliness or isolation
- Unhealthy coping strategies
