Student Success Services Renews Grant
August 2020
Student Success Services (SSS) has received $1.7 million to fund the program for the next five years. SSS is designed to support traditionally underrepresented students in higher education.
The competitive grants are part of the Federal TRIO Programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will allow the university to continue its efforts to serve first-generation and limited income students, as well as those with disabilities in need of academic assistance.
The SSS grant award reaffirms the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢'s commitment to student retention and success," said Allison Crume, Dean of Undergraduate Studies. "Students will continue to benefit from the direct academic support and advising provided by the dedicated SSS program team."
Reba Garth, SSS Director, stated, "the new SSS grant provides services to 220 students beginning the freshmen year throughout graduation." She lamented that the grant proposal earned a perfect score of 125 points and she is ecstatic about the 100% SSS grant proposal writing success rate over the last 30 years. USF's SSS proposal scored higher than that of other preeminent universities in the state. Reba stated, "the success is attributed to a team effort. LaTosha Thomas, Ph.D. assisted in the writing process for this grant cycle and our program has met its goals each year earning us 15 out of 15 prior experience points."
Student Support Services (SSS), housed within Undergraduate Studies, has a proven success record. Currently 96% of 220 students are in good academic standing with 92% persisting over the last year. The average grade point average for the 2019 and 2018 cohorts is 3.04.
