After 47 years as a professor, Carnot Nelson retired from USF鈥檚 Department of Psychology in 2006. Following his retirement, he was selected to become a Fulbright Senior Lecturer at Hacettepe University in Ankara Turkey. 鈥淲hile in Turkey I developed research focusing on cross-national differences in leadership and emotional labor with colleagues and students in both Turkey and the US,鈥 Nelson recalled. After his Fulbright award, Nelson returned to Turkey several times, where his wife was also a Fulbright Senior Lecturer at the Ankara University Law School during the 2009-2010 academic year. While there, Nelson began teaching in the Department of Psychology at Bilkent University, also in Ankara, first as a consultant and later as Visiting Professor. Ultimately, he was appointed Acting Chair of Psychology at Bilkent University.
鈥溞掳拿帕喜誓谀恍畔ow has collaborative agreements with three Turkish universities and a collaborative doctoral program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with Middle East Technical University,鈥 said Nelson. In total, over 15 Turkish students have spent time at USF鈥檚 psychology department, and one did her dissertation with a 新澳门六合彩内幕信息faculty member. Last year, Nelson and his wife hosted the farewell luncheon for Fulbright Visiting Students and Scholars who were graduating and/or returning to their home countries. Nelson is currently Professor Emeritus and recently learned that he will be a Fulbright Specialist in South Africa this coming spring.
