Ivory Coast Comes to USF
The Institute on Black Life had the pleasure of hosting a fundraising African art exhibition sponsored by Dr. Michael J Orlosky. The exhibition featured a total of 32 items from Dr. Orlosky's personal collection and the Contemporary Art Museum, USF Tampa Campus. The exhibit was be open to the public from February 1- 11, 2022 at the Harbor Hall on the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢Saint Petersburg Campus. Enjoy the video below highlighting this special event!

Dr. Michael J Orlosky
Dr. Michael J Orlosky's (аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅϢ‘78 Medicine) personal art collection from the Ivory Coast was acquired from local craftsmen in 1972 during a summer when Dr. Orlosky worked in the Ivory Coast. The pieces represent an array of traditional carvings, tapestries, games, and garments.

The Contemporary Museum of Art, аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢Tampa Campus, is loaning pieces from its African art collection from the Ivory Coast.
The Institute on Black Life serves as a resource center on the history and culture of the Black experience in Africa and the African Diaspora with a focus on Blackness. In addition, to facilitate and support knowledge production through research and scholarly exchange, enhance local and global community engagement, and support and promote student success.
