Moorings

The maintains a series of moorings on the West Florida Shelf that provide real time observations of surface meteorology and water column physical properties, such as velocity, temperature and salinity.

With support from this project, we are working towards enhancing these observations to include near-bottom nitrate instrumentation. This will allow us to better understand how the timing and delivery of nutrients onto the shelf may contribute to the initiation, growth, and termination of red tides.

These moored observations are provided through the (COMPS) data server and are largely leveraged from external resources.

This research is made possible with funding support from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC Agreement No. 20035) in partnership with Mote Marine Laboratory.
